St Bernard’s Hill House high on the hilltop at Tortola’s West End is a private estate that encompasses 8.22 acres of hilltop with a lookout location offering views south across St John, west to St Thomas and north over Jost van Dyke. With gated road access from the private Belmont Estate, the elegantly-furnished colonial style main house and four additional bedroom pavilions are set within manicured gardens of palms and bougainvillea. All accommodations are well situated on the estate to offer maximum privacy. A self-contained manager’s residence is located in a private area at a short distance from the main house.

The main house has been designed to take advantage of the abundant breezes and outstanding views with extensive covered dining and living terraces on three sides. The great room has high arched doors that can be left open to create the ultimate indoor/outdoor living experience. A formal indoor dining room with seating for ten, leads to a state-of-the art kitchen complete with two pantries, marble countertops, a central island and stainless steel appliances. An outdoor dining area can be reached from the kitchen. The spacious master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, additional bedroom and guest half-bathroom complete the main house. The main living areas are equipped with a Sonos sound system.

Situated at either side of the main house and reached by outside entrances, are the bedroom cottages. Each guest cottage is decorated and furnished in a different but equally tasteful style and all have wraparound, hardwood verandas with comfortable seating areas. Two of the guest cottages contain one bedroom each and a further two bedrooms are housed in a duplex cottage, separated by an interconnecting door but still with their own private verandas. Large en-suite bathrooms, high cathedral ceilings, air-conditioning, televisions, kitchenettes and walk-in closets are included in each guest bedroom.

The infinity-edge pool can be reached down a stone staircase from the main house. Thoughtfully designed stools have been positioned in the water at the infinity edge to ensure your comfort whilst taking in the stunning scenery and perhaps a cocktail or two! The surrounding pool terrace has plenty of comfortable loungers, umbrellas to provide shade, a wet-bar and conveniently situated bathroom. The gardens have been carefully landscaped to create several areas of lawn separated by stone walkways and vivid shades of bougainvillea and hibiscus. A half-hidden lawn is home to a hammock shaded by a canopy of trees and makes a cool spot to enjoy an afternoon snooze. A wooden viewing deck has been built onto the hillside facing Frenchman’s Cay. Filled with comfortable lounging furniture and shaded by royal palms the bird’s eye views afforded over Soper’s Hole and St John cannot be matched anywhere else on the island.
